The white coat

By Katlego Ramagaga and Beth Caddy

The Community Experience Programme (CEP) aims to provide fourth year pharmacy students at Rhodes University with a glimpse of what the future will hold for them, in life after graduation. Their assignment: to conduct interviews with patients in Settlers Day Hospital, Grahamstown.  At a deeper level, they are being asked to confront what it means to put on the white coat of the working pharmacist.  Up to this point, their undergraduate education was about the study of medicine, and of medical conditions.  Now they are required to consider what happens when their work involves interaction with human beings

Our role in this project was to witness their journey of discovery.

Follow us as we witness the
students' journey from the world of theory to that of pharmacy as it is practiced.

Listen to the voices of
participants in the CEP project.
